General Fund Revenue Sources
North Dakota’s General Fund has collected $1.69 billion in revenue through Feb. 28, offering a clear picture of the mix of state funding so far this biennium. Sales tax remains the cornerstone of the General Fund, contributing $866.7 million and accounting for 51.3% of collections.
Beyond sales tax, oil & gas tax allocations provided $250.0 million (14.8%), underscoring the sector’s continued importance to the state budget. Individual income tax brought in $191.4 million (11.3%), while corporate income tax totaled $134.2 million (7.9%), together reflecting a solid contribution from personal earnings and business activity. Motor vehicle excise tax added $52.5 million (3.1%), and other transfers contributed $70.0 million (4.1%). The “other” category, comprising miscellaneous sources, accounted for $124.0 million (7.3%).
