Governor's Budget Guidelines
In early May, Gov. Burgum released his budget guidelines, which executive branch agencies use to start preparing their 2025-27 budget. The guidelines call for agencies to do a 3% reduction if their General Fund base budget appropriation is $10 million or more and a 3% reduction if their special funds base budget appropriation is $10 million or more. The Governor stressed he wants agencies to cut red tape, eliminate zero-value work, focus on citizen outcomes, and utilize automation and augmentation in their business processes. Agencies are statutorily required to submit their budgets to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) by July 15. However, OMB grants extensions when necessary to ensure the most current information is incorporated into the budget proposal.
