North Dakota Boat Insurance Provider,
This notice is intended for insurance providers who offer coverage on boats and personal watercrafts to clients in North Dakota. I apologize if you are receiving this and do not offer this service.
With a record 64,000 watercraft registered in North Dakota, water recreation activities in the state are more popular than ever. And regardless of how cautious boaters and other watercraft users are, accidents happen. With that in mind, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department is concerned that many accidents are not properly reported.
Here’s where you can help. Our Department is asking for your assistance in educating the recreational boating community of the regulations involving reporting an accident.
It would be beneficial if you would inform your customers that if a boating accident involves injury, death or disappearance of a person, an accident report must be filled out and sent to our Department within 48 hours of the occurrence.
If property damage exceeds $2,000, but no deaths or injuries are involved, a boat operator has five days to file a report.
A boat accident form is available at the North Dakota Game and Fish Department website, gf.nd.gov, at any Game and Fish office, or by contacting a local game warden.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
