Last week, Union County leaders broke ground for the Union County Food Innovation Center, a new facility designed to strengthen the local agricultural economy and support food-based entrepreneurs. This 25,000 square foot center in Wingate will provide a commercial kitchen and professional workspace for licensed businesses developing new food products or catering services.
The project, made possible through partnerships with Wingate University, the Town of Wingate and N.C. Cooperative Extension, will expand opportunities. Read more about this exciting new project.

Cybersecurity Tip of the Month
Toll Texts with QR Codes
If you receive a text claiming you owe a traffic toll or fine, especially one threatening arrest, stop and verify before taking any action.
Scammers are sending messages that appear to be official court notices, complete with seals, case numbers, and QR codes. In reality, these QR code links lead to fraudulent payment sites designed to steal your financial information.
How to Protect Yourself
-
QR Codes. Do not scan QR codes from unexpected or unknown messages.
-
Be Cautious. Be cautious of urgent or threatening language demanding immediate payment.
-
Legal Notices. Understand that legitimate legal notices are delivered by mail or in person, not by text.
- If a message pressures you to act quickly and scan a code, treat it as suspicious and verify through trusted sources.
