Waste Disposal Changes at County Sites

Coming in July,
Union County Solid Waste has announced an operational change that may impact how often and where you take your household waste for disposal. Beginning July 1, 2025, all disposal services that require a fee will be provided only at the Union County Landfill. The County’s five satellite residential waste and recycling centers will continue to provide convenient, complimentary services to County residents. In May, Union County Transportation celebrated National Transportation Week by thanking our riders in a special way. Three passengers were randomly selected to receive Visa gift cards valued at $25, $50 and $100.

Union County Transportation provides safe, dependable rides that help residents get to medical appointments, grocery stores, senior nutrition sites, and more. For many, it's more than just a ride - it's a lifeline to care, community and independence.

NCDMV Warns of Fraudulent Text Scam

The N. C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is aware of multiple fraudulent text scams requesting payment for fees, fines or tolls. NCDMV will never request payment by text. Please report any text you receive as spam and delete it. Avoid clicking links or sharing personal info. Read more about this scam on NCDMV's website.

74 & Rocky River Survey

The City of Monroe, in partnership with the Town of Indian Trail and the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization, is seeking public input on a proposed overpass or underpass at US 74 and Rocky River Road to enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve connectivity. Comments are open until June 20, 2025.

SUN Bucks: Summer Grocery Help for Families

This summer, qualifying Union County families can receive $120 per child to help buy groceries through SUN Bucks, a new food assistance program. SUN Bucks is available to many families who already receive SNAP, Medicaid or free/reduced-price school meals. Families can also take advantage of free summer meals at community sites.

Take a free guided hike with the Town of Waxhaw in celebration of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 7. The hike begins at 9 a.m. at the HC Nesbit Park Trailhead. All ages welcome; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Battle of the Waxhaws Reenactment Weekend

Experience the Battle of the Waxhaws event weekend with two Revolutionary War reenactments: The Battle of the Waxhaws and Walkup's Mill. Join more than 100 reenactors on June 7, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and June 8, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the Museum of the Waxhaws. General admission is $10; children 6 and under enter free.

Indian Trail Family Fun Day

Celebrate Indian Trail’s biggest event of the year at Crooked Creek Park on Saturday, June 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Enjoy carnival rides, food trucks, a Ninja Warrior course, live music, Giggle Box Circus, a giant robot, and fireworks.
