If you've ever thought about running for local office but are not sure where to begin, Union County Board of Elections is offering a workshop for interested individuals to learn the basics of financial reporting, including how to track campaign contributions and expenditures, as well as important campaigning restrictions and key state election laws.
To make it easy to attend, there are two options: one virtual session on Wednesday, June 4 and one in-person workshop on Thursday, June 5. Whether you are exploring the idea or ready to file, this is your opportunity to get informed and prepared. Register in advance.

Highway 74 Sweeping
The City of Monroe Engineering Department in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be sweeping U.S. Highway 74 (Roosevelt Boulevard) during the weeks of May 19 and May 26, excluding Memorial Day on May 26. During street sweeping operations, temporary lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers are reminded to take precautions around street sweeping equipment and take alternate routes if possible. Detour Alert
New Town Road Closure Begins May 19
Starting at 9 a.m., Monday, May 19, New Town Road will be closed for construction. Detours will be in place, and the traffic signal at the intersection of Waxhaw–Indian Trail Road will be fully operational to help manage traffic flow. Please allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.

The Deadline for Reappraisal Appeals is May 28
Property owners who disagree with their new reappraisal value may submit an appeal electronically by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, or postmarked by that date. The request for an appeal filing allows property owners to work directly with Tax office staff to review property details, address concerns, and work toward a resolution before moving to a formal hearing with the Board of Equalization and Review. Union County has been made aware of phishing text messages targeting Medicaid recipients. These texts falsely claim that your benefits have ended and include a link to reapply. Please do not click this link. Do not share personal information through suspicious text, emails or links.
Medicaid will never send re-enrollment links via text. If you receive one, delete it immediately. If you're unsure about your benefits, call Union County Social Services at 704-296-4300.

Union County Public Schools Is Hosting a Career Fair
Union County Public Schools (UCPS) is hiring for positions in transportation, facilities, school nutrition, custodial, after-school program, and more. The district will host a career fair Wednesday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UCPS Professional Development Center, at 721 Brewer Drive, Monroe. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, meet current employees and apply for open positions. Hiring managers will be on-site to discuss job openings and assist with applications.
