All Union County employees are invited to the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, May 15, at 12:45 p.m. in the courtyard between the Union County Judicial Center and Government Center. The Sheriff's Office and several local law enforcement agencies will honor law enforcement officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Please note: Employees working in or near downtown Monroe may hear gunshots at approximately 11 a.m. as the Honor Guard fires a 21-gun salute during a ceremony practice and again at approximately 1:15 p.m. to conclude the ceremony. The shots are blanks, so no actual projectiles will be fired.

May is Electrical Safety Month, and we are celebrating alongside the National Safety Council and thousands of organizations across the country. During the month, we are focusing on ways we can be safe at work and home. Did you know that 69% of all electrical fatalities involve non-electrical occupations? Just because your job does not consist of “electrical work” does not necessarily mean you are not exposed to electrical hazards.
|
Here are a few electrical safety tips to keep you safe at work and at home
- All electrical work should be completed by qualified workers with proper training.
- Regularly inspect electrical cords and extension cords for damage.
- Be careful not to overload outlets or power strips.
- Keep electrical devices and outlets away from water to prevent shock.
- Never remove the third prong of a three-pronged plug.
- Before plugging in any electrical device, make sure the switch is off.
- When unplugging, hold the plug and not the cord itself, to avoid damage.
- Watch for overhead power lines when using a ladder, working on roofs, trimming trees, or carrying long tools or loads. Keep away from power lines.
- Never plug a space heater or fan into an extension cord or power strip.
