Union County Facilities Supervisor Receives Second Lifesaver Award

Union County Government is proud to recognize Wendell Roberts, Warehouse Supervisor in the Facilities & Fleet Management department, as the recipient of the Lifesaver Award for the second time. Roberts was recently having lunch at a local restaurant with fellow Union County employees when another patron began choking and was unable to breathe. Without hesitation, he responded to calls for help, quickly assessing the situation and performing the Heimlich maneuver. His actions successfully dislodged the obstruction, allowing the individual to breathe again. Read more about his heroic efforts.

Detour Set to Begin on New Town Road

The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is replacing a bridge on New Town Road in Wesley Chapel, just west of the roundabout with Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 21, and is expected to continue until the fall of 2025. During this project, a signed detour will reroute traffic along Will Plyler Road, and a temporary signal will be used at the Will Plyler/Waxhaw-Indian Trail intersection.

Please drive with caution in this area as drivers adjust to the temporary traffic patterns. For real-time travel information on state roadways, visit DriveNC.gov.

Union County Bridge to be Replaced

NCDOT will begin replacing the bridge on New Town Road over the West Fork of Twelve Mile Creek in Waxhaw as early as January 2025, requiring the closure of New Town Road between Will Plyler Road and Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road until fall 2025. Detours will be in place. For updates, visit DriveNC.gov.
