Burn Ban Lifted
Union County Fire Marshal Jon Williams lifted a local burn ban following the North Carolina Forest Service’s decision to end the statewide burn ban implemented on March 21, 2025.
With the burn ban lifted, residents may resume open burning where permitted; however, fire officials urge the community to continue prioritizing safety when burning outdoors. For more information on open burning regulations and to obtain a burn permit, visit our burning regulations webpage.

Qualified seniors or people living with disabilities can apply to save money on their property taxes through the Elderly or Disabled Exclusion Property Tax Relief Program. You must:

Be at least 65 years old (as of Jan. 1)

Be totally and permanently disabled - no age requirement (as of Jan. 1)

Live on the property

Have an income of $37,900 or less from the previous year

Career Fair for Teaching & Non-Teaching Positions
Union County Public Schools is hosting a career fair on April 12, from 9-11 a.m. at Weddington High School to hire for various positions, including secondary math and science teachers, support staff, and more. Attendees can meet current staff, apply for jobs, and participate in onsite interviews. Prospective attendees can preregister online and view available positions on the UCPS careers webpage.

Every April, our staff commemorates Child Abuse Prevention Month by placing blue pinwheels and wearing blue to raise awareness. Child abuse and neglect are preventable, and communities thrive when families receive the support they need. Familiarize yourself with the signs of abuse and neglect, offer support to families in need, and report any suspected cases to the proper authorities.
