Safety Improvements at Intersections

Virtual Public Meetings

Critical Intersection Program Road Construction Sign

As part of its Critical Intersection Program, Union County is collaborating with the municipalities of Fairview, Indian Trail, Marvin, Monroe, and Wesley Chapel to make safety improvements at these intersections:

  • N.C. 218 at Indian Trail-Fairview Rd. in Fairview;
  • Franklin St. at Johnson St. in Monroe;
  • Waxhaw-Indian Trail Rd. at Billy Howey Rd. in Wesley Chapel;
  • Rogers Rd. at Wesley Chapel Rd. in Indian Trail;
  • Joe Kerr Rd. at Marvin Rd. in Marvin; and
  • Stacy Howie Rd. at Waxhaw-Marvin Rd. in Marvin.

Throughout March, Union County Planning will host virtual public meetings with each of the municipalities listed above. Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the planned improvements for each intersection.

NCDOT to Close Waxhaw-Marvin Bridge Next Week for Maintenance

The NC Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of roadway at the Waxhaw-Marvin Bridge on Waxhaw-Marvin Road for maintenance. The temporary closure will begin this Monday, March 3, and continue until Friday, March 7, weather permitting. Drivers are advised to follow signed detour routes.

Cane Creek Park Entrance & Rental Boats

Starting Saturday, March 1, the entrance fee to Cane Creek Park will be $4 per vehicle, and $8 for vehicle and trailer. Rental boats will begin Saturday, March 1. Rent a kayak, canoe, or Jon boat for $10 an hour with a 2-hour minimum. 

Beginning Monday, March 3, Cane Creek Park hours will be changing to 7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Click here for a fee list including prices for annual passes which are sold at the front office.  

The City of Monroe Announces 2025 Lake Season Opening

The City of Monroe’s lakes - Lake Lee, Lake Twitty and Lake Monroe - will officially open for the 2025 season on Saturday, March 1. The season will run through Nov. 1, 2025. Click here to view lake hours, activities and regulations on the City of Monroe's website.

Friends of the Library Spring Tea featuring Meagan Church

Tickets are on sale now to the annual Spring Tea on Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe featuring the best-selling author of "The Last Carolina Girl,” Meagan Church!

Tickets start at $40 and can be purchased online or by emailing unioncountyfol@gmail.com. Books will be available for purchase, and a signing will follow the author's talk. Ticket sales end March 26.

March Screenings at the Dowd

Enjoy $2 admission at the Dowd Center Theatre for the upcoming family screening of "Hidden Figures" at 5 p.m., on Saturday, March 1 and a date night screening of "Leap Year" at 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 6. Movies will be shown throughout on select Saturday nights at 5 p.m. Concessions will be available to purchase at each movie showing. Click here for more information.

Join the Union County Sheriff's Office for a child safety class on Saturday, March 15, at 10 a.m. Learn vital infant CPR and car seat safety tips and get your car seat checked by certified professionals. This class does not offer CPR certification. Space is limited, so sign up soon!

February is National Children's Dental Health Month

More than 1 in 5 children ages 2 to 5 have at least one cavity in their baby teeth.

Here are some tips to help your kids maintain PEARLS of wisdom:

  • Protect tiny teeth by caring for your mouth when you're pregnant.
  • Ensure you wipe your baby's gums after each meal.
  • Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle.
  • Remember to brush your kid's teeth twice a day.
  • Limit drinks or food with added sugars for kids.
  • Schedule your kid's first dental appointment by their first birthday or after their first tooth appears.
