Delay in Absentee Ballots
The N.C. Supreme Court has mandated the removal of the We The People party, including presidential nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr., from the ballot, prompting revised ballots to be printed and mailed to those who requested absentee ballots. So far, 3,972 Union County voters have requested absentee ballots for the 2024 general election.
Registered voters may request an absentee ballot online at the N.C. Absentee Ballot Portal. The paper absentee ballot request form can be mailed or returned in person to the Union County Board of Elections, 316-B East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Here are key dates and deadlines for the 2024 general election in North Carolina:

Oct. 11: Voter registration deadline (5 p.m.)*

Oct. 17: In-person early voting begins; same-day registration available

Oct. 29: Absentee ballot request deadline (5 p.m.)*

Nov. 2: In-person early voting ends (3 p.m.)

Nov. 5: General Election Day (Polls are open 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.)

Nov. 5: Absentee ballot return deadline (7:30 p.m.).*
*Voter registration and absentee voting deadlines are different for military and overseas citizen voters.

 Union County residents are invited to dispose of hazardous household materials at this FREE event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
