Some Water Activities at Cane Creek Park Temporarily Closed
Due to a significant algae bloom, most water activities at Cane Creek Park are temporarily closed. On June 10, 2024, staff at Cane Creek park observed areas of excessive algae in the lake and collected water samples for testing and analysis. School Resource Officer Awarded

Summer Programs From Union County Public Schools
Union County Public Schools (UCPS) is excited to bring back two initiatives aimed at supporting the educational and nutritional needs of children in the community this summer.
The UCPS Mobile Book Bus and the Free Summer Meals Program will provide valuable resources to children, ensuring their well-being during the break.
Mobile Book Bus
The UCPS Mobile Book Bus is set to roll out on Monday, June 17, bringing the joy of reading directly to elementary-aged children throughout the summer. This retrofitted bus will travel to various schools and community locations, offering students access to a wide selection of age-appropriate books at no cost to their families. Children will have the opportunity to board the bus and choose books that capture their imagination, nurturing a love for reading while combating the summer learning slide. Free Summer Meals Program
District leaders understand the importance of proper nutrition for children's growth and development, and are dedicated to providing healthy and nourishing meals during the summer break. The School Nutrition Services department will provide free lunch meals for children aged 18 and under starting Monday, June 17. View locations for meal sites and dates they are available.

NCDOT to Construct Roundabout at Sikes Mill Road & NC-218
The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close the intersection of Sikes Mill Road (SR 1606) and NC-218 June 18 through August 21, to construct a roundabout at the intersection. During construction, traffic will be detoured using Old Ferry Road, Brief Road East and A G R Nance Road, depending on destination. Click here for the full announcement from NCDOT.

Union County Farmer’s Market Donation Station
Union County residents can make a contribution at the Union County Farmer’s Market’s Donation Station on Saturday, June 15.
Purchase fresh produce directly from local farmers and then donate those items at the Donation Station table. Every third Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon, during farming season.
