Litter Pick Up and Recycling

Union County is forming a new Litter Task Force that will provide input on strategies to address and prevent litter. The Board of County Commissioners will appoint seven members with expertise in one of more of the following areas: agriculture, business management, environmental science, municipal government, solid waste, and volunteer or nonprofit organizations.

May is the perfect time to do your annual spring cleaning. As you tackle the clutter that has accumulated, we invite you to take advantage of the various waste and recycling services that Union County offers to all residents. Union County Solid Waste operates the county landfill and five residential waste and recycling collection sites throughout the County for your convenience. Share Your Story Through the Southwest Regional Library Brick Campaign

Union County Library Foundation invites you to purchase a brick to leave your mark within our community by creating a personalized message to honor or memorialize a special person, recognize your business or share your own story. 

These legacy bricks will become a permanent part of our StoryWalk® at the new Southwest Regional Library as your message welcomes families for generations to come.

Union County Transportation Places in Roadeo Competition for Second Year

Union County Transportation (UCT) participated in its second Roadeo competition of the North Carolina Public Transportation Association (NCPTA) with yet another year of impressive results. Read the full story.

Food Truck Fridays

The Town of Weddington is hosting Food Truck Fridays on the first three Friday nights in May - starting tonight - at Weddington Town Hall. Each event is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will include music, family entertainment, and games. 

Paws in the Park

Bring your four-legged friend and have a howling good time at the Town of Indian Trail's Paws in the Park event at Crooked Creek Dog Park Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy pet-friendly vendors, pet games and food trucks.

Come celebrate Star Wars Day at the Dowd Center Theatre with Star Wars: Return of the Jedi on Saturday, May 4. The movie begins at 5 p.m., and the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Forces will be arriving at 4 p.m. Admission is only $2 at the door, and don’t forget to wear your Star Wars gear (costumes welcome).

Shred-a-Thon

Several local organizations are collaborating to host a Shred-a-thon on Friday, May 10, 9-11:30 a.m. at 500 W. Jefferson Street in Monroe. Protect yourself from identity theft. Gather your personal, sensitive information and shred it for free onsite! Everyone is welcome. There is a five box/bag limit.
