To prepare for the opening of the new Southwest Regional Library next month, the Waxhaw Library will be closed permanently starting Monday, March 18.

Help us kick off the moving process and make one last memory on the last open day Saturday, March 16. Check out at least 20 items to return to the new library and receive a free tote bag!

South Piedmont Community College Open House Events

South Piedmont Community College is hosting several open house events for prospective students. Visitors will learn about admissions, financial aid, student life, academic programs, and short-term workforce training. Campus tours and meet and greets with the faculty, staff and administration will also be available.

These are drop-in events that are scheduled before the summer term starts in May and fall classes begin in August.

Registration is encouraged, but not required. 

Union County Public Schools Career Fair 

UCPS Career Fair Flyer

Join Union County Public Schools (UCPS) at a Career Fair on Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at Weddington High School.

The event is a great opportunity to ask questions, meet current employees and apply for positions. Principals, district administrators, managers and human resources staff will be at the fair and there will be opportunities for onsite interviews and application support.

The Town of Waxhaw is seeking public input as the town updates its Master Transportation Plan.

Waxhaw residents are encouraged to give input online or drop-in and speak with staff at the Waxhaw Police Department Community Room on one of the following dates:

Thursday, March 21, between 1:30-3 p.m.

Thursday, March 28, between 8-9:30 a.m.

Improve Accessibility in Indian Trail

The Town of Indian Trail is undertaking an ADA Transition Plan project to improve the accessibility of the Town’s facilities, programs and services. Residents are encouraged to give input in a brief online survey to help identify barriers to accessibility by April 30.

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Regular screening, beginning at age 45, is the key to preventing colorectal cancer and finding it early. However, you may need to be tested earlier than 45 or more often if you have inflammatory bowel disease, family history of colorectal cancer or genetic syndrome.

Safety Tips for Home Oxygen Users

If you or a loved one uses an oxygen tank at home, keep these safety tips in mind:

  • Never smoke in a home where oxygen is being used. 

  • Keep anything that could spark at least 10 feet from the point where oxygen comes out.

  • Don't wear an oxygen tank while cooking.

Grand Opening of Waxhaw Recreation Barn  

The Town of Waxhaw will celebrate the grand opening of a new Recreation Barn at 5412 Waxhaw-Marvin Road in Waxhaw on Friday, March 8, from 3-6 p.m., followed by a showing of the movie "Angels in the Outfield" at 6 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets for the movie. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Saturday Screenings at Dowd Theatre

Don't miss out on this weekend's showing of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" on Saturday, March 9, at 5 p.m. Admission is $2 at the door. View the lineup for upcoming movie screenings.

St. Patrick's Day Treasure Hunt

Leprechauns have been stashing their treasure at Cane Creek Park, and we need your help finding it!

Visit Cane Creek Park on Friday, March 15, starting at 9 a.m. to search for bags of gold, silver or bronze coins. Bring your treasure to our front office for a prize! Only one bag per family may be redeemed for a prize. This event will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so save the date!
