Upcoming Board of County Commissioners' Meeting

The Union County Board of Commissioners' regular meeting that is normally held on the third Monday of the month has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, when county offices will be closed. The Board's agenda will contain several items of interest, including:

Fluoride in Drinking Water

A large number of public water systems throughout the country, including Union County, apply fluoride to drinking water. Some residents have expressed concerns about this practice. The Board of Commissioners will hear information about fluoridation in drinking water while deliberating whether to continue this practice.

Union County 2050 Plan

Union County's 2050 Comprehensive Plan was adopted by the Board of Commissioners in August 2021, following a robust public engagement process. On Jan. 16 and continuing as needed, the Board of Commissioners will take time during their regular scheduled meetings to hear updates on the plan. The Board may direct staff to implement the plan as written or to make adjustments that align with the Board's current vision and goals for Union County's future.

Continued Funding for Union County Express

The Union County Express (Route 74X) provides commuter bus service between Indian Trail and uptown Charlotte. The route is operated by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) through a joint funding agreement between Union County and the Town of Indian Trail. Staff will seek the Board of Commissioners’ feedback on whether to continue funding the route in the next budget year, which begins on July 1.

Retirement of Fire Marshal Kevin Rigoli and K9 Camden

The Board will recognize Fire Marshal Kevin Rigoli and accelerant detection K9 Camden, who are retiring together from public service.

New Feature on County Website:
"Find Your Municipality"

A magnifying glass depicting a search for a municipality

A new search feature is now available on our website to help determine if a property is inside a municipality or in the unincorporated area of Union County. Because street addresses do not necessarily align with municipal boundaries, this information can be tricky. Fortunately, this data is now searchable in an easy-to-use format.
