Christmas Bureau Support Needed This Week

Christmas Bureau

The Christmas Bureau still needs volunteers this week to help prepare for the distribution of gifts and food for families.

The most pressing need is set-up and staging at the Human Services ground floor conference center to unload gifts from storage trucks and set them up in family groups so we are prepared for the distribution days later this week.

If you cannot volunteer for a full slot in this sign-up, you can even stop by to help for as little as 30 minutes. Just stop by the Human Services conference center and let one of the coordinators know you are there to help out.

You can use volunteer time off (VTO), or because this is a county initiative, if you have used all your VTO and have capacity and supervisor approval, you can treat this time working for Christmas Bureau the same as a meeting or admin time. Your contribution of time, whether a few minutes or several hours, will make a difference this holiday season. Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

Human Services Employee Parking This Week

This week, the Christmas Bureau will begin distributing gifts and food to families in the employee parking lot at the Human Services building, which will impact employee parking arrangements and traffic at the Human Services building.

Through Dec. 21, parking spaces #1-10 will be unavailable, with spaces #11-25 affected from Dec. 18-21. Employees are encouraged to park further away if they don't require accessible spaces and should notify their supervisor if accessibility is needed. Your cooperation during this period ensures a smooth distribution process for our residents.

Space Heater Reminders from Risk Management

If you use a space heater in your workspace, take these precautions to stay safe:

  • Space heater must turn off if it tips over.
  • Always unplug the unit when not in use.
  • Place the unit at least three feet from any combustible source.
  • Place the unit on a level surface.
  • Do not place the space heater in an area where it becomes a trip hazard.
  • Do not use extension cords or outlet strips.
  • Inspect the space heater and the cord to ensure it is in proper working order before operating.
  • Make sure the unit does not have any build-up of dust or any other particles.
  • Be familiar with the unit you are operating and follow all manufacturer instructions.
  • Turn the space heater off if you leave your workspace for a meeting or break.
  • Supervisors should take corrective action as needed.

If you have additional questions, contact Keith Richards, Risk Manager.
