The Union County Board of Elections (BOE) is offering an excellent opportunity for county employees to contribute to the upcoming municipal elections and, in return, receive compensation for their valuable efforts.
There are three opportunities outlined below:
Voting Site Set-Up: November 6, 2023
The BOE is seeking help on Nov. 6, 2023, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for the crucial task of setting up voting sites. This work involves loading election equipment and supplies into trucks and unloading them at election sites. Some lifting, potentially up to 50 pounds, may be required. Employees will need to provide their own vehicle for travel on this day but can request reimbursement for mileage. The compensation for this day of work is a flat amount of $160, and lunch will be provided.
Voting Site Break-Down: November 8, 2023
On Nov. 8, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the BOE needs assistance breaking down voting sites. This task involves loading election equipment and supplies into trucks at various election sites and returning and unloading items at the Board of Elections office in Monroe. The compensation for this day of work is also a flat amount of $160, and lunch will be provided.
Election Day Workers: November 7, 2023
For Election Day itself, which falls on Nov. 7, 2023, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., the BOE is looking for precinct officials at voting sites. The responsibilities include checking in voters, verifying voter IDs, assigning ballots, or serving as a curbside attendant for car-bound voters. Candidates should possess general computer skills and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
How to Get Involved with the Board of Elections (BOE)
If you're interested in participating in one of the above opportunities, follow these steps:
1. Speak with your supervisor and obtain approval from your department director to take time away from your regular position. Employees do not need to use paid time off if their supervisor approves them working for the Board of Elections.
2. Email the BOE or reach out to Sharon Jordan at 704-283-3669 by Friday, Sept. 29 to express your interest and get more information.
It's important to note that if you work with the BOE on a day when you're scheduled for your regular job, you will receive your base pay for that workday, in addition to the flat rate for BOE work you perform. Employees are advised not to use Volunteer Time Off for this work opportunity.
This is a unique chance for county employees to actively participate in the democratic process and support the Union County community during municipal elections while earning extra income. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference.
