Recent Increase in Fraudulent Telephone Calls

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a recent increase in fraudulent telephone calls that local residents are receiving.

Scam Alert

The most common scam is the “jury duty” scam in which con artists call and attempt to defraud a local resident by asking for money to avoid being arrested for a missed session of jury duty. The scammers normally ask for money to be sent via an alternative payment system such as Venmo, Zelle, or prepaid gift cards.

Please do not give any of your personal information to these scam callers. The Sheriff's Office will never ask for money over the phone.
