Water and Swimming Safety this Summer

Two-thirds of drowning deaths take place between May and August. This summer, make sure to supervise young children in and around pools.

Don't read, use a cell phone, or leave children to go somewhere else, because a child can drown in less than 20 seconds. Preschool children who are not within arm’s reach at all times should wear a life jacket.

Adults must also take precautions in and around open water. Never swim alone. Consider wearing a personal flotation device, especially while boating, paddling, or another towed water sport, regardless of swimming ability.
