Congratulations to Social Services employee Jamal Gardner for receiving the spring 2023 Caught in the Act award! Gardner was recognized for preventing a student from running off of a school's campus, and deescalating the situation so the student was able to return to class and finish the school day.
"Time and again, our employees show us how much they care about the people they work with," said County Manager Brian Matthews. "Jamal's actions undoubtedly kept this student out of harm's way, and it speaks highly of his character that he went out of his way to intervene and keep this child safe. We are deeply grateful that someone of Jamal's caliber chooses to work in Union County." Click here to read more.

The Management Team recognized Gardner's actions by surprising him with the award during a regular team meeting on April 28.

Union County recently received a AAA bond rating and stable outlook designation from all three major ratings agencies: Standard & Poor's Global Rating (S&P), Moody's, and Fitch Ratings. This rating and designation mean Union County has achieved the highest bond rating and designation possible from all three major ratings agencies.
"These ratings are an excellent reflection on our County's financial standing, and they will result in savings as we will receive the lowest possible interest rate on our debt due to these standings," said County Manager Brian Matthews. "Union County prides itself on being fiscally responsible and planning for sustainable progress, and we are very pleased that these ratings reflect that commitment."
Congratulations to our Finance team for their efforts to help achieve these designations! Read more about the AAA bond rating on our website.
