Solid Waste partnered with the Fun Committee to organize an employee volunteer litter clean-up event on Friday, April 21, as part of NCDOT's Spring Litter Sweep. Approximately 25 county employees used their paid volunteer time off to help beautify Union County, working in teams to collect litter along Goldmine Road and portions of Airport Road, Price Shortcut Road and Rocky River Road. Solid Waste staff reports that volunteers collected 55 bags weighing a total of 395 pounds!
The Fun Committee held two contests during the event: a Litter Scavenger Hunt and a prize for the Best Dressed volunteer. Volunteers were challenged to collect a list of commonly found pieces of litter and to dress to impress for the day. The winners of the Litter Scavenger Hunt were McKaylan Nance (Tax Administration), Amy Griffin (Planning), and Kristen Foxworth (Tax Administration).
The winner of the Best Dressed contest was Amy Winn (Tax Administration); Amy wore a black & white wide-brimmed hat for sun protection while working outdoors. Thank you to all who volunteered in this effort! A slideshow of pictures from the event will be featured on County Connect this week.
