Submit an Application for the Septic System Repair Program

Applications are still open for the Community Development Block Grant Septic System Repair Program. Qualifying individuals living in certain areas of Union County can apply for financial assistance to help them repair their septic tanks. Certain conditions apply if funding is granted to applicants. Pay Delinquent Property Taxes by Feb. 28, 2023

The Union County Tax Office mailed delinquent tax notices on Monday, Feb. 6. Any delinquent taxes must be paid by Feb. 28, 2023. If delinquent taxes are not paid, they will be advertised as required by law.

There are multiple options to pay delinquent property taxes:

  • By mail: Mail your check using the return envelope in your tax bill or mail to P.O. Box 38, Monroe, NC 28111
  • By drop box: Located on Stewart St. Extension behind the Historic Post Office
  • By phone: 855.497.0718
  • Online: https://unionnc.devnetwedge.com/ 
  • In person: Pay at the Tax Collector’s office on the first floor of the Union County Government Center Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

NCDOT to Start Construction on Roundabouts 

The N.C. Department of Transportation announced this week that construction will begin soon on two roundabouts in Union County. One roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Lawyers and Mill Grove roads, north of Hemby Bridge. The construction schedule and detour information are available on NCDOT's website.

Another roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of N.C. 200 and N.C. 218, east of Fairview. More information about this roundabout is available on NCDOT's website

Annual Tree and Fruit Plant Sale

The Union County Extension Master Gardener's annual Tree Seedling & Fruit Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a variety of native trees & shrubs, apples, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, muscadine grapes, figs, elderberries, strawberries, and more!. More than 1 in 5 children ages 2 to 5 have at least one cavity in their baby teeth.

Here are some tips to help your kids maintain PEARLS of wisdom:

  • Protect tiny teeth by caring for your mouth when you're pregnant.
  • Ensure you wipe your baby's gums after each meal.
  • Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle.
  • Remember to brush your kid's teeth twice a day.
  • Limit drinks or food with added sugars for kids.
  • Schedule your kid's first dental appointment by their first birthday or after their first tooth appears.

Recall: Fabuloso

Colgate-Palmolive has recalled about 4.9 million Fabuloso bottles due to possible bacterial contamination. The recall involves certain Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaners, that can be used to clean most residential hard surfaces.

You can be immediately informed about recalled items that may pose a health or safety concern  by signing up for email notifications from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
