Colleagues,
At special meeting of the Board of Commissioners this afternoon, I presented my recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2023. In developing this budget, I have focused on strong fiscal stewardship to continue to provide core services to benefit all Union County residents while maintaining the current tax rate of 58.80. My proposed budget includes limited enhancements, particularly for public safety, programs within our Human Services Agency, opening new facilities, and supporting education and community partners.
You are this County's most important resource. That is why my recommended budget includes funding compensation increases based on performance evaluations, as well as continued investments to provide financial support for a quality health plan.
The recommended budget is contingent on approval by the Board of Commissioners. To hear my budget message to the Board of Commissioners, click here. Per General Statute, there will be a public hearing at the June 6 Board meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. We anticipate the Board will vote on the budget on June 13. I appreciate the efforts from our Budget, Finance and Tax teams for their support in preparing the FY23 budget. If you have questions about my recommended budget, please do not hesitate to reach out to me personally (mark.watson@unioncountync.gov | 704.292.2625).
Thank you all for your continued dedication to provide excellent customer service to this community. I am proud of the work each of you do and the growing accomplishments of our organization.
