Through a collaborative effort with municipal Park and Recreation organizations around Union County, we’re excited to launch “The Trailhead” – our refreshed e-newsletter to keep you updated on updates, events, and activities.


Virtual 5k

Virtual 5K Results

Union County Parks and Recreation hosted its first Virtual 5k Race at Cane Creek Park in July. Participants included runners from all over the county. The top three finishers were: Braden Vickers (20.07), Brad Johnson (22.29), and William Laurido (23.20). Congratulations and thank you to everyone who came to participate! Keep an eye out for our next race!

Union County’s Hidden Treasure

Located in southern Union County, Cane Creek Park is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. Recreation opportunities are centered on a 350 acre lake while a 13 mile trail system will lead you through the dense forest. National Parks & Recreation Month

“We are Parks and Recreation” and we celebrated National Park and Recreation month in July by highlighting the people who make sure our parks and programs are well-maintained, safe, inclusive, and welcoming. We continue to serve our community and truly appreciate everyone’s support. THANK YOU!

Community Events

Virtual Fishing Tournament

Cane Creek Park will be hosting a virtual fishing tournament between August 10 and August 23. For rules and regulations, please visit the Facebook event page! Trophies and prizes will be awarded.


Waxhaw’s Fun Days in the Park

Come out for a morning of fun activities and crafts. Pre-registration is encouraged for the last two sessions on August 5 and August 12. Click here to reserve your spot!


Arts Sampler Camp

Create one-of-a-kind pieces of art using a variety of materials - clay, paint, drawing, and even computer graphics! August 3 through August 7, campers will design their own t-shirt and bag! Click here for more information about the camp.


Indian Trail’s Pop-Up Pick-Up

The Indian Trail Parks & Recreation Department is hosting Pop-up Pick-ups outside of Town Hall. Families can drive through and pick-up a bag full of goodies, including crafts, coloring pages, and more!
