NC College Connect Data Correction Window

Dear Public School Leaders,

Last week was incredible for North Carolina's seniors. For the third year, students across the state learned that college is within reach thanks to NC College Connect. For the first time, however, EVERY public school senior on track to graduate with a diploma – 105,036 students – received notice that a college seat at their local community college is waiting for them next fall. In addition, 64% of them – more than 67,500 students – learned that they were accepted to dozens of additional four-year colleges and universities without an application.

More than 95% of the state's seniors learned that college is within reach, and it wouldn’t be possible without the work done on the local level, including support and hard work from administrators, counselors, data managers and teachers along the way. Thank you.

We also want to flag one important follow-up: Data Correction Window, Due Sept. 30.

NCDPI has been notified that a handful of seniors who should have received a notification may not have due to incorrect data fields in the NCSIS, powered by Infinite Campus. This could happen for reasons as ordinary as a course code or a GPA field that hadn't been updated when the file was pulled. In order to ensure that every eligible student is included, a data correction window has been opened through Sept. 30. Although the mailed letters cannot be reissued, we can still ensure the students are not missed and receive direct admission offers in their CFNC portal.

Our ask is that you coordinate and work with your school teams to:

  • Check for any seniors (Grade 12 and Grade 13) on track to graduate who were not eligible for NC College Connect direct admissions, whether that information surfaces from a parent, a student or a counselor. Use the initial data pull list found in the Accountability Secure Shell on Sept. 16 to determine who was missed.
  • Have the school teams update the data in the NCSIS. Work with data managers and others to ensure that data is correct. The Data Correction Form has the fields to indicate what you updated - schedule, GPA, diploma type or grad program, membership status and grade-level change.
  • Complete the Data Correction Form with student data indicating what has been changed. This form is available in the Accountability Secure Shell.
  • Ensure the superintendent/charter school leader signs the data correction verification and upload both forms by Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. back to the Accountability Secure Shell.
  • Once NCDPI verifies that data, we will make sure each student gets their direct admission offers in their CFNC Portal.

Your superintendent or charter school leader will verify and acknowledge that:

  • The NC College Connect list of eligible students has been reviewed.
  • Eligible students not found in the list have been identified.
  • Data corrections for NC College Connect eligibility have been made in the NCSIS. The corrected data is complete and accurate and has been checked by my designated staff.
  • A list of these students and the information needed by NCDPI to review the corrections has been entered into in the data correction submission form and returned through the Accountability Secure Shell.
  • NCDPI will verify all data submitted to ensure student eligibility before granting direct admission offers. If a student’s data is incomplete, no further changes can be made.
  • All corrections are final and it is understood there is no opportunity to submit additional students or further changes.

Please note that this is the last opportunity to make sure students are eligible for NC College Connect. We expect the number to be small for data corrections and grateful for your attention to these details. But "every senior" means every senior, and we'd rather ask now than have a student miss their moment.
