Get in the Maker Mindset
Start here! This will just take a few moments, but a great creative exercise to get in the right mindset to explore Makerspaces! The activity was inspired by a powerful article/podcast interview with Emily Pilloton on IDEO about Building Courage Through Making
What does this look like in school libraries?
Makerspace is a broad concept that is applied in libraries, classrooms, and schools very differently! Duplin Co. Schools have a K-12 STEAMA program so the Digital Learning & Media team have been working on bringing that Maker Mindset to each school community. Check out four different examples of how they are using a variety of materials and activities to make curricular connections & develop Maker Mindsets with students:
⬆️ North Duplin Jr/Sr. explored Math concepts in their Makerspace & BF Grady hosted a Grand Re-Opening of their Makerspace with two book-aligned activities
⬇️ At Wallace Elem, learners explored Native American Maker Stations & at North Duplin Jr/Sr, holiday Maker stations were in full swing through December.
What does this mean for our learners?
