EC Division Fall Conference Call for Proposals
The Call for Proposals for general conference sessions for the 71st Conference on Exceptional Children is still open!
The Conference has a rich tradition of local presentations from across North Carolina. Topics of interest for local teams to consider submitting a proposal for:
- Effective progress monitoring practices (specific to students with IEPs).
- Effective evaluation and identification practices (any of the following: Specific Learning Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disabilities)
- Instructional programming considerations for students with Traumatic Brain Injury (mild/moderate/severe)
- Efficient special education reporting and documentation practices

Return-to-Learn After Concussion: Team of Professionals TrainingThis self-paced course is intended for the designated district - and building level teams responsible for developing system-wide and building level plans to identify, support and monitor recovery of students who have sustained mTBI. Topics include:

Return-to-Learn After Concussion: Annual Information for All School EmployeesThis self-paced course provides information and training to all school staff on concussion awareness, management and monitoring. It meets the following annual training requirement of NC State Board of Education Policy SHLT-001 (Return-to-Learn After Concussion). Each public school unit must provide information and staff development on an annual basis to all teachers and other school personnel in order to support and assist students who have sustained a concussion in accordance with their learning and behavioral needs. This annual training should include information on concussion and other brain injuries, with a particular focus on return-to-learn issues and concerns. |
Medicaid in EducationThese on-demand modules provide background on why public schools recover costs for health services from Medicaid, the three programs available for Public School Unit (PSU) participation, how each program works, helpful practices and considerations for all who participate. |
Overview of School-Based Practice for Related Service ProvidersThe Overview of School-based Practice is offered annually as a Summer Institute to support the orientation of newly hired or contracted practitioners into educational practice. This content is being transferred into on-demand modules for availability through NC DPI ECD Professional Learning. Until the updated on-demand course is complete, the recorded Overview of School-based Practice sessions from the 2020 Summer Institute have been posted for interim access. |
