Governor's School - COVID-19 Update; Office teleworking

Public Schools of North Carolina

Dear Governor's School Contacts,

The Governor's School website (www.ncgovschool.org) has been updated with an announcement about the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak. Here is the text, so you can share it with students in case they do not check the website regularly.

The Office of the North Carolina Governor's School will consult with agency leadership and partners at Meredith College and High Point University about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak and its effects on the upcoming Governor's School session. The safety and health of everyone (e.g., students, families, faculty, staff, etc.) associated with Governor's School will be of top priority. At this time, regular preparations are continuing as if Governor's School will happen. Students are encouraged to plan in the same manner. Updates will be announced on this website and shared with students, families and schools as soon as they are available.

The Office of the North Carolina Governor's School will be operating in a 'telework' capacity for the next couple of weeks, following Governor Cooper's directive to State employees in the Wake County area. The office email address (ncgovschool@dpi.nc.gov) will be the best contact method, though we can also be reached individually at tom.winton@dpi.nc.gov and tish.bynum@dpi.nc.gov. While we will continue to check and respond to voicemails, emails will be more readily accessed.

  • Acceptance/Declination Forms are starting to come in; many thanks. Please continue to contact selected students and submit your completed form by Monday, April 6.
  • Remember that tuition is not due until Monday, May 4, and we should know of our summer status well before then. If you submit tuition payments and then the session is canceled, we will work with the agency to fully reimburse.

We continue to work and plan with great hopes for the 2020 Governor's School session and ask all our Contacts to do the same. All the best to you and your families during these challenges and many thanks for your continued dedication to students.

Sincerely,

Tom Winton, Coordinator
North Carolina Governor's School
