LinguaFolio® is a proficiency-based, student-centered, formative assessment tool that:
  • empowers learners to manage their own language learning,
  • provides a place for learners to collect evidence showing their growth, and
  • facilitates language learning in and outside the classroom.

LinguaFolio® is aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (SCoS), which includes the English Language Development Standards and the World Language Essential Standards.

Free LinguaFolio materials in Word and PDF formats are available for English as a Second Language (ESL) and World Language classrooms.

An online version, LinguaFolio Online or LFO, is also available for all language learners. LFO is from the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon. NCDPI worked with CASLS to customize LFO for NC, which replaced our state's older online version called e-LinguaFolio.

North Carolina teachers in K-12 Public School Units (districts and charter schools) who want to use LFO in their classrooms are eligible for FREE accounts for themselves and their students.

Please submit the LFO Access Form if you and your students qualify.
