NCDPI Webinars

All K - 20 World Language administrators, teachers and instructors are welcome at the NCDPI webinars!

Individuals who participate in the live broadcast of a World Language webinar can earn contact hour(s) towards a CEU for licensure renewal. Note: Local Education Agencies (LEAs) or districts and charter schools must approve professional development offerings.

9/18 Broadcast Archived

The first World Languages Quarterly Update Webinar for 2019 - 2020 was on Wednesday, September 18, and the archived materials are now available on the bottom of the Webinar Series Information page on the World Languages Google Site. This includes the slides and a recording of the broadcast, as well as the PD to Go handout about staying in the target language 90% of the time or more.

9/23 @ 4 - 5 pm

An Informational Webinar for the Learning through Languages (LTL) High School Research Symposium is coming up on Monday, September 23, from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Come and learn how to get student teams involved in this competition for Level III or higher learners, including heritage speakers, of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish. The LTL website has details, and here is the registration form for the broadcast.

9/24 @ 4 - 5 pm

The first Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Quarterly Update for 2019 - 2020 is next Tuesday, September 24, from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Submit this registration form to join us to learn about updates and information to share for all DL/I programs. The professional learning focus will be on authentic assessment and the DL/I classroom.

10/2 @ 3 - 5 pm or 10/3 @ 4 - 6 pm

The LinguaFolio for North Carolina Webinar is designed for ESL and World Language educators to provide information about this formative assessment tool for all language learners, including specifics about how to access free LinguaFolio materials for classrooms in Word, PDF, and online formats. The registration form will let you choose which date and time slot works best for your schedule.

Thomas & Collier Book Study - Fall 2019

The NCDPI DL/I Team is offering a free, instructor-led online book study focused on the first book by Drs. Thomas and Collier, Educating English Learners for a Transformed World.
All North Carolina educators are welcome, especially those who work with English Learners (ELs) in various programs including ESL, heritage languages or native speakers, and two-way DL/I.

Details about the book study are posted on the registration form, including dates for synchronous sessions in October - November and options for earning 1 or 2 CEUs. Please submit your completed registration form by midnight on Wednesday, September 25.

9/25 @ 2 - 4 pm

The College Board is hosting a webinar about building a strong Advanced Placement (AP) Chinese Program on Wednesday, September 25, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Eastern. Dr. Jianhua Bai, Chief Reader of AP Chinese exams and professor at Kenyon College, will be sharing strategies and resources to develop a well-articulated Chinese language program that leads to AP success. 9/27 in Columbia, SC or 9/28 in Atlanta, GA

Learning and Teaching with TV5Monde is a workshop for French teachers being offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in our region on two different dates: Friday, September 27 in Columbia, SC in partnership with the University of South Carolina, and Saturday, September 28 in Atlanta, GA in partnership with Georgia State University's Center for Urban Language Teaching and Research (CULTR). The deadline to apply is Monday, September 23 for this free workshop on audiovisual resources and media literacy. 

9/28 in Chapel Hill, NC

A free K-12 Educator Workshop on Japan's Edo Period is being offered on Saturday, September 28 by the Carolina Asia Center, the NC Teaching Asia Network, and the Ackland Art Museum. Details and registration are on the workshop webpage.

10/10-12 in Auburn, AL

The Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Conference (MIFLC) is being hosted by Auburn University's College of Liberal Arts on Thursday - Saturday, October 10 - 12 in Auburn, AL. Registration materials and program information are available on the MIFLC website.
