FILED TODAY: NC House and Senate School Psychologist Recruitment and Retention bills

Today, the NC Senate and House have filed identical bills, entitled School Psychologist Compensation and Recruitment (SB 382 and HB 482).
These filings represent measures being taken by the NC General Assembly to address the critical shortages experienced across NC public schools in the provision of school psychological services to students.
Included in these bills:
Part I: a salary increase of $1,000 per month for school psychologists working in NC public schools.
Part II: outlines the School Psychologist Recruitment and Retention Program (to exist within the Department of Public Instruction). The purpose of this program is to increase the pool of talented school psychology providers through the provision of signing and retention bonuses based on criteria established for implementation of the program (outlined in the bill).
