On behalf of East Carolina University and Greensboro College:
Invitation to participate in the TALGS Conference
WHEN IS TALGS??
TALGS is scheduled for Saturday, February 9th on the Greensboro College campus. The conference will run from 9AM to approximately 4:30. Your breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee.
WHAT IS TALGS??
The conference consists of an entire day of TESOL-related professional development presented by fellow grad students and other professionals in the field. It's also a phenomenal opportunity to network with other foreign language/ESL/ESOL professionals from all types of teaching contexts. Continue Education Units will be offered for active teachers who need to maintain their teaching license in North Carolina.
WHAT IF I WANT TO PRESENT??
You should!
This conference is designed to be very accessible to new and experienced graduate students. There won't be any PhDs presenting- it's all about getting experience sharing your ideas in a professional manner. It's a great way to build your resume or CV. You do not have to have completed or sophisticated research projects. If you've written (or are in the process of writing) your thesis, great. But you can also present if you just have a great teaching strategy or completed a project at school or at GC that you think might be interesting to other teachers. If you want to present, you MUST turn in an abstract by November 15th. This is not a difficult proposal- just a quick description of what you plan to do. There are multiple types of sessions, but poster sessions are a great no-stress format for presenting. For more information visit:
WHY IS THIS YEAR REALLY COOL?
Besides being at GC this year, we have a great keynote speaker. Deborah Short, a true superstar in the TESOL field, has agreed to come and deliver both the keynote address, as well as a workshop with strategies and tips you can use in your classrooms. There will also be representatives from the US State Department there to discuss the English Language Fellows program. (https://exchanges.state.gov/us/program/english-language-fellow-program)
IS TALGS EXPENSIVE?
No! The fee is only $20 for members of the GC community and $30 for those who are not affiliated with the college. This fee included your breakfast, lunch, certificate of attendance, and your CEU certificate. That's a bargain!
Talk to your school administrator to see if they are willing to pay for you to attend (they likely will). Get a group together so you can ride together and have fun along the way.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
It's easy. I am attaching the registration form that should be filled out and returned to me via US mail with a check for payment. However, if you prefer, you can use the attached credit card form to pay with plastic and scan and email both forms to me or email them. If you prefer to call in your credit card number, just give me a general idea of when to expect the call.
Note that the rate for registration goes up after January 15th, so don't procrastinate.
