Celebrate NC Schools Orange

Reflections from Mr. Joseph Maimone, Charter School Advisory Board (CSAB)

Dear Charter Leaders-

As we begin to plan for the 2018/19 school year, I am honored to turn the reins of the Performance Committee chair position over to Lindalyn Kakadelis.

I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to refine the performance framework to help make the process of monitoring accountability of our charter schools more streamlined and uniform.

At our recent July meeting at the NC Association for Public Charter Schools Conference, Ms. Kakadelis delivered an excellent presentation that outlined the steps we will be taking to improve the performance framework to ensure our schools are accountable, while minimizing burdensome and duplicate tasks of busy school directors and boards.

As Director Machado pointed out in the discussion, it is imperative that we work together to ensure that our schools are accountable to our stakeholders, and that we all have consistent policies that will protect our charter schools and those we serve.

Now that student enrollment at public charter schools in North Carolina has broken the crucial threshold of 100,000 and continues to grow toward 10% of the public school population, we must be ever more vigilant to remain innovative and free of over regulation to best serve our students and families.  Streamlining the process of monitoring our schools and providing essential support services will help to ensure a successful third decade of charter schools in North Carolina.

Preparing for the 2018-19 Fiscal Year

Committee assignments were updated and Ms. Lindalyn Kakadelis will now take over as the Performance Committee Chair.

The Board reviewed their strategic calendar and looks forward to a busy and productive year. In addition, the Board received their annual ethics training presented by Eric Snider, SBE attorney.
