OPT-IN TO HOME BASE- FEATURING TRUENORTHLOGIC

“Summer is approaching!  Give your teachers an opportunity to advance themselves this summer with professional development through Truenorthlogic by opting into Home Base.

LEAs and charters utilize the Truenorthlogic/North Carolina Teacher Effectiveness System (TNL/NCEES) to engage, learn, support and measure competencies through professional development and staff evaluation.

TNL/NCEES provides a platform where all the pieces of a professional development plan can connect with one another including evaluations, observations and improvement plans. It helps LEAs and charters manage professional development for staff through DPI or Local PD course registration, attendance and completion, coaching and mentoring, and centralizes this information in one place to support teacher, support staff and administrators’ professional growth.

Local control of TNL is part of the Home Base suite of tools.  For access to this and other Home Base tools, have your finance officers (LEAs) and principals (charters) opt-in to Home Base for your district/school.

Note:  Only district finance officers and charter school principals may submit requests through the online opt-in tool for their district/school.

For complete details about the Home Base opt-in process, visit the Home Base website’s Opt-in to Home Base page.

NC K-3 FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT PROCESS: Success During the Kindergarten Year

Teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators in North Carolina’s public schools are sharing how their engagement with the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process is impacting teaching and learning in classrooms across the state.  Members of Swain County Schools’ District Implementation Team shared the following story.  This story illustrates the importance of utilizing coaching and a growth mindset when implementing the Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) portion of the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process and making instructional decisions for children.

Through collaboration with their Regional Implementation Team, Swain East Elementary and Swain West Elementary Schools have implemented an instructional coaching model to support teachers’ use of the Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) and broader NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process in kindergarten and first grade.  Members of Swain County’s District Implementation Team (DIT), including teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and a district data coach, have been utilizing a coaching model based upon the work of Dr. Steve Knotek from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The frameworks established in this model have allowed Swain’s DIT members to provide ongoing support to classroom teachers who are implementing the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process.  Coaches and coachees work closely together as they address whole-child development of students and interpret data to guide instructional decisions.  They see the importance of having a growth mindset in order to effectively implement formative assessment.  This mindset is at the foundation of the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process, as teachers meet students where they are and implement the instruction necessary to move their learning forward.  Swain County’s coaching structures, as well as the growth mindset focus, are in place to support whole-child development and instructional practices and are contributing to both teacher and student success through the implementation of the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process.
