Home Base Opt-In Open for 2018-19

Providing school districts and charter schools access to robust digital content is a priority for DPI. Through the Digital Learning Initiative, we are collaborating with state partners to bring additional digital content to Home Base in the 2018-2019 school year.

The Home Base Opt-in Tool is now available for the 2018-19 school year. Access is limited to district finance officers and charter school directors.

A memo about Home Base pricing and features, sent Wednesday to superintendents and charter school directors, provides detailed information about the suite of digital tools for next year. All districts and charter Schools are asked to indicate their opt-in decision for school year 2018-19 using the opt-in tool by June 15. To ensure access to Schoolnet and local professional development components in Truenorthlogic by the start of the school year, a response must be submitted by the June 15 deadline.

Thank you for collaborating with us to offer powerful, integrated digital learning tools to improve learning opportunities for all students and educators across North Carolina. We hope to see 100 percent district participation as for the current year.

Please see the Home Base Opt-in FAQs or contact Yolanda Wilson, Home Base Opt-In administrator, at yolanda.wilson@dpi.nc.gov or (919)  807-3485 if you have any additional questions.

Maintenance Weekend Scheduled for April 20-22

The next Home Base maintenance weekend is scheduled for Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22. PowerSchool and Schoolnet are both included in this weekend maintenance.

PowerSchool maintenance will involve the implementation of the new state collection, School Start-Time and End-Time Reporting as mandated by state legislation G.S. 115C-12(18).  A script to remove the duplicate scheduling table records that prevents the Start-Time and End-Time Data Collection Autorun from running will also be implemented. For process instructions, please review the quick reference document (QRD) School Start-Times and End-Times available on the NC SIS site to accommodate users with the new reporting requirements.

Schoolnet maintenance will involve a 19.1.11 version update that corrects reported issues that do not impact North Carolina.  Schoolnet will also load Gap Match and Graphic Gap Match Certica items that will require re-indexing, lasting approximately four hours.  All Schoolnet maintenance is expected to be completed Saturday, April 21 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Home Base will be brought down Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. and returned to service no later than Monday, April 23 at 6 a.m.  Once maintenance is completed, a message will be sent to notify users that the applications are up and available for use. If there is a delay in returning the applications to service, users will be notified.

Class Size Update

All schools should now be able to view the final results of the Legislative Class Size Collection. Each LEA has until April 20 to review the reports and open tickets with the DPI Support Center if discrepancies are found.

We are also extending the deadline to submit the Superintendent’s affidavits. Affidavits are due Monday, April 30. Please email a scanned copy to classsize@dpi.nc.gov with your LEA number listed as the first item in the subject line: “[LEA #] Class Size Affidavit.” Please retain the original in your files. The updated template will be sent separately.

We sincerely appreciate your time and patience throughout this process.

PowerTeacher Pro Cohort II Training and Resources

PowerTeacher Pro Cohort II Training will begin Tuesday, April 17.  The Home Base staff is eager to begin training and migrating the remaining districts and charters that were not part of Cohort I to PowerTeacher Pro.

The workshops are structured as train-the-trainer-style sessions.  Attendees are requested to bring a laptop to each session and must be an employee of a NC public school.

In preparation for PowerTeacher Pro training, resources for teachers and administrators are available on the NC SIS site at http://www.nc-sis.org/PTP.html.  These resources may also serve as excellent review materials for those districts and schools that participated in Cohort I.

Moving to PowerTeacher Pro Next Year?

If your school/district did not move to PowerTeacher Pro in 2017-18, then you are a part of Cohort II and will be migrating over the summer.

NCDPI and Instructure are working together to ensure a smooth transition for the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. This includes updates to prepare for the installation of the Canvas Gradebook Plugin for PowerTeacherPro.

Stay tuned for further communications coming to Canvas Admins and PowerSchool Coordinators in May with more information about going Pro!
