Opt-In Tool Now Available

Sign-Up Deadline Is June 16

Access to our new, secure Home Base Opt-in Tool is now available for the 2017-18 school year. Unlike years past, only district finance officers and charter school directors have access to the opt-in tool. The Home Base Usage Pricing memo, sent March 27, provides detailed information about pricing and application features.

All districts and charter Schools are asked to indicate their opt-in decision for school year 2017-18 using the opt-in tool by June 16.  To ensure access to Schoolnet and local professional development components in Truenorthlogic by the start of the school year, a response must be submitted by the June 16th deadline.

Please see the Home Base Usage 2017-18 School Year Frequently Asked Questions or contact Jamie Woodlief, Project Coordinator, at jamie.woodlief@dpi.nc.gov or (919) 807-3745 if you have any additional questions.

Truenorthlogic: Helping Educators Grow

We learn more every day about how to use technology more effectively to improve teaching and learning for students. Practitioners in schools and districts – from teachers and technology coordinators to data managers and principals – have important lessons to share about their experiences, successes and challenges.

Joan Bjork, Administrative Technology Coordinator, Craven County Schools, discusses her district's use of Truenorthlogic to help administrators and teachers develop as educators to improve teaching and learning for students.

What is your district’s greatest success with Truenorthlogic?

A: One of the greatest things that it has done for administrators is that it has provided a way that we can easily monitor the evaluation process for our employees. Before we had the online platform, we could not confirm that all teachers were getting all the evaluation components required by policy. Truenorthlogic put those things into perspective. At a minimum, we can know that all the pieces have been completed -- the right number of observations, self-evaluations, etc. The evaluations also can be seen in real time. I like that because we need to be able to share evaluation data with other leadership professionals to build and foster a community of growth expectations for all members of the organization.

Have we made progress as a state by adopting this? Absolutely.

Take the Survey

We are currently surveying Schoolnet users to inform our contract renewal process for the next school year.

Schoolnet is an instructional improvement system (IIS) that provides data to enable teachers, principals, and other administrators to manage continuous instructional improvement.

NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) initially searched for an IIS in February 2013. As NCDPI approaches IIS contract renewal, this survey serves to determine how current services are being used and the end user’s perception of their quality.

Your feedback is vital to our application's success and to support your specific needs in the classroom. Please use the following link to begin the survey.

Student Voices Award Nominations Now Being Accepted

State Educational Technology Directors Association is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2017 Student Voices Award are open now through May 15. Each state has the opportunity to nominate up to two schools or districts to present during our Student Voices Panel at the Leadership Summit on October 25, 2017 in National Harbor, Maryland.

SETDA is looking for a school or district that has transformed the educational experiences of the students to best meet the needs of digital learners. The winner will receive the Elsie Brumback Scholarship to fly to Washington D.C. to present at the Leadership Summit and tour our nation's capital. Preference will be given to students from states that have not presented in recent years. To view previous presentations, visit http://www.setda.org/about/awards/student-voices/.

In addition, SETDA's Private Sector Partners (PSP) will have the opportunity to nominate one school or district from any state. SETDA will connect with state members regarding any PSP nominations to ensure there are no unforeseen issues related to any nominee prior to the review process.

For additional information and to make a nomination, complete the nomination form and review the nomination rubric. You may download a Word version of the nomination form to share, however, all nominations must be submitted online.
