Coming in 2017-18: PowerTeacher Pro

PowerTeacher Pro Cohort I Interest Survey

PowerTeacher Pro is coming to NC PowerSchool instances, and when it arrives, we want you (teachers, data managers and coordinators) to be prepared.

What separates PowerTeacher Pro from any other grade book? Streamlined grading and assignments within this tool empowers teachers to drive student growth by saving countless teacher hours spent elsewhere. Fast and intuitive interfacing also reduces teacher’s work. PowerTeacher Pro supports standards-based and traditional grading in one comprehensive solution, and it delivers greater flexibility with classroom analysis.

In an effort to determine interest in participating this spring in Cohort I of PowerTeacher Pro (Gradebook) training and support for statewide launch in the 2017-18 school year, we shared a survey with curriculum and instruction leaders last week. This effort is integral to the success of how PowerTeacher Pro is implemented in your district and ultimately statewide. The survey will close tomorrow.

More information regarding PowerTeacher Pro can be found at: https://www.powerschool.com/products/powerschool-sis/gradebook/.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Hunter Huffman, Special Projects Manager, at (919) 807-3633 or hunter.huffman@dpi.nc.gov.

New Functionality Coming to PowerSchool

PowerSchool will soon be able to accommodate students taking classes in a school district other than their base district with the implementation of PowerSchool Student Cross-LEA Enrollment.  Stay tuned for more information concerning this rollout.

Edgecombe County Schools Making Schoolnet Work for Teachers and Students

We learn more every day about how to use technology more effectively to improve instruction in the classroom and learning for students. Practitioners in schools and districts - from teachers and technology coordinators to data managers and principals -- have important lessons to share about their experiences, successes and challenges.

Janet Morris, accountability director for Edgecombe County Schools, talks about her district's use of Schoolnet

Q: What has been your district’s greatest success with Schoolnet?

A: Schoolnet is a valuable resource for Edgecombe County Public Schools.  Assessments are available at many grade levels and subjects.  Reporting can be available immediately after testing.  Instructional resources tied to student needs are immediately available.  We’ve tried a lot of assessment systems, but I have found Schoolnet to be so much better than others we have tried.   No other assessment systems we’ve experienced have immediate access to intervention or enrichment materials for teachers to use in the classroom.

All schools in our district use Schoolnet for common formative assessments every two to three weeks and for benchmarks.  These assessments help teachers better identify which standards students understand and where they need additional help.  We have used the instructional improvement system since it became available in 2013-14 and had the highest number of schools exceed growth last year since 2002.

Quick Tips

Classrooms for Teachers

Do you need to know if students have mastered a standard you have assessed several times in this school year? In the Standards Performance section of the Classrooms tab, you can select multiple sections or student groups, then multiple test in a subject area to compare. With this tool you can see how student are performing over time by objective. Don’t forget to drill down to the sub-objective by clicking the objective for more details.

Classrooms for Leadership

In the Standards Performance section of the Classrooms, you will also notice you can see the same teacher data. This can be a great resource for helping teachers define what standards to reteach!

Upcoming Professional Learning

Check with your district level Schoolnet lead (click here). They will determine if they have the staff to provide the professional learning or if they need to request a district training. If the lead can host a district training, please have them contact a DTL Regional Consultant for more details.
