Teachers Use Canvas to Collaborate, Share, Learn

Pilot Focuses on Forging Connections

As more and more educators across North Carolina use technology every day, Home Base is adding a new dimension to teaching and learning by providing a wealth of new tools and resources.

Just one example is a new pilot program underway this year – using the Canvas learning management system – to help more than 6,000 teachers of Math 1, 2 and 3 statewide adopt revised standards for those courses.

The “Math Collaboratory” pilot - a research-practice partnership between NCDPI and UNC Greensboro - is more than a means to deliver the new standards. It’s a way to leverage technology to allow teachers to learn from one another, collaborate, share resources and engage in meaningful discourse about teaching and learning.

Last week's “Wired Wednesday” provided helpful information on how to use student workspaces. If you're a classroom teacher trying to go “paperless,” this may be a great solution for you!  If you missed last week’s webinar, make sure you access the recording or powerpoint from the webinar on the “SN Webinar” tab of the NC: Home Base Schoolnet Professional Learning Plan!

Quick Tips

Classrooms for Teachers

In the Instructional Materials section of the Classrooms, you will notice a new tab has been added! NC Vetted K-12 has more materials for your classroom use and we will continue to add to this in the 2017 year and beyond.

Classrooms for Leadership

In the Instructional Materials section of the Classrooms, you will notice the same NC Vetted K-12 tab! This tab and the other four have great resources for you to highlight with teachers based on their needs for lesson plans and activities.

Upcoming Professional Learning

Check with your district-level Schoolnet lead. They will determine if they have the staff to provide the professional learning or if they need to request a district training. If the lead can host a district training, please have them to contact a DTL Regional Consultant for more details.
