Amy Campbell

Welcome, Amy Campbell!


The Sensory Support and Assistive Technology Section would like to welcome back Amy Campbell to the Exceptional Children Division.  Amy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in vision impairment that will serve our state well.  Amy is assigned to support the northeast, southeast, north central and sandhills regions; however, until additional VI staff are on board, she is available to all regions of the state. 


66th Annual Exceptional Children Conference

The annual Exceptional Children Conference is November 8-10 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC.  This year's theme is, Self-Assessment:  A Journey of Change.  There are several exciting sessions this year specifically for vision related professionals to let you know about.  

Pre-Conference Institute:  Tuesday, November 8

  • Unified English Braille for Math and Technical Materials - presented by Julie Bardin

General Conference Sessions:  Wednesday, November 9, and Thursday, November 10

  • State of Implementation and Strategies for North Carolina's Transition to UEB 
  • Data Collection Methods to Increase Self-Monitoring by Students with Vision Impairment 
  • IEPs and the Visually Impaired Student:  Bridging Compliance with Outcomes 
  • Reading Literacy for Students with Low Vision Part I and II
  • Deaf-blindness:  What Teachers and Service Providers Should Know 

Guest presenter, Chrissy Cowan from Texas School for the Deaf and Blind, will be presenting the sessions on reading literacy.

Stem Showcase

2016 STEM Showcase

The STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities is an annual educational event where attendees meet role models with disabilities who have thriving careers in STEM fields.  This year, students will hear from world-famous scientist, Dr. Temple Grandin!

American Printing House for the Blind

The American Printing House for the Blind is winding down their fiscal year.  To use remaining funds, orders must be placed by September 30, 2016. Please know that at this time of year APH is inundated with orders and any orders you place may be delayed.   If you have already spent your allotment for this fiscal year, you may go ahead and order using funds for the next fiscal year.
