UDC Talks @NOON | 2018 COMMUNICATING AS DESIGNERS: TECHNOLOGY AND DATA DRIVEN DESIGN WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11, 2018 COR Museum 220 Fayetteville Street CoLab: Mapping as a Synthetic, Analytical, and Informative Research Tool Associate Professor of Architecture Sara Queen and Assistant Professor of Art + Design Tania Allen have developed a design research group called CoLab through N.C. State University’s College of Design. CoLab focuses on critical mapping as a participatory design research tool. They explore mapping methodologies that embrace cartography as a powerful analytic and synthetic research tool. Their studios explore infrastructural networks through mapping with the goal of facilitating deeper, more diverse understanding of urban systems and the processes which shape physical place, cultural space, and social territory. This UDC Talk will feature the City of Raleigh Museum’s current April exhibit which includes samples of CoLab’s studio work, student research presentations, and discussion on how mapping can lead to innovative design solutions. UDC Talks will qualify for education credits via self submittal for AICP, AIA, and NCBOLA.
