Construction Update
Duke Energy Progress has just about completed the upfitting of the underground electrical vaults, located at the SKS property (Gumby’s Pizza, Fed EX, and Jersey Mikes), Dan Allen Drive and Rosemary Street. They are scheduled to start working on power line conversions from the overhead lines to the underground lines in the next week, and we should see the poles on the south side of the street start coming down at the end of this month.
PSNC returned this week to continue the relocation of their gas lines. They are scheduled to work at Friendly Drive this week and will then switch sides to work on Dixie Trail. On Friday or Monday, depending on the weather, PSNC will need to close Friendly Drive while they complete work in the center of the street, shutting off some existing lines and tying into their new lines. There will be a detour in place while this work is completed.
Shepherd Street was a hub of activity the last few weeks. Carolina Conduit completed the installation of the electrical and telecommunication duct bank, and Pipeline crews finished the storm drain work along the street. Crews still need to install the water main and sanitary sewer in that area.
Contractors finished building the rain garden structure, in front of the 2811 building, between Dan Allen Drive and Zaxby’s, just before the holidays. This week the landscape crew installed a special soil mixture and planted three bald cypress trees in the structure. The trees are about 10 feet tall and 7 feet wide
at this time and will grow to about 50 or 70 feet at maturity. The rain garden will feature benches on the side facing the building and utilizes old trolley tracks as part of the design. Those features will be installed at a later time during the project.
Stormwater work continues along the corridor. In the next three weeks crews are scheduled to continue installing the stormwater system running towards SubConscious, and once the power poles are removed they are scheduled to start work between Brooks and Gardner Street.
