Development Services Department

Effective March 1, 2017

The City of Raleigh Development Services Department is implementing a new Plans Holding Policy. The new policy applies to all plans, whether approved or denied. Plans will be held by the City for 180 calendar days (6 months) from the date of the last review cycle. Clients will be properly notified before any plans are destroyed.

The new policy is designed to accomplish two objectives; 1) protect the integrity of the design, 2) address the need to purge abandoned plans.

The notification process for approved and denied plans is:

  • Clients will be notified that plans are ready for pickup by email once the project is approved or denied.
  • If plans are not picked up within 90 calendar days after the first notification a City of Raleigh staff member will contact the applicant by phone and email, to remind the client of the Abandoned Plans Policy.
  • The third notification takes place after 150 calendar days by phone and email that the plans will be destroyed at 180 calendar days if they are not picked up. No further contact will be made after 150 calendar days, and plans will be noted for destruction at 180 calendar days.
