Music – Raleigh Children’s Orchestra Age:
6-13yrs. The Raleigh Children’s Orchestra is a multilevel string orchestra for
students in grades 1-7 who have played for six months or more. The orchestra
provides a rare opportunity for young players to rehearse and perform in an
orchestra setting. Each semester begins with learning new pieces of music,
culminating in a free public concert for friends and family. Students provide
their own instruments, music stand and three-ring binder. Director: Ilse Mann.

Pottery – Food! Food! Food!
Age:
7-15yrs. All children love to explore with clay, and to do it through food is
fun. Pizza, cupcakes, fries, fruits and veggies allow their imaginations to be
limitless. In the first class we will form the wet clay into food, and in the
second we will paint the glaze colors onto the bisque pieces. The finished
pieces will be ready one week later. Lynn Kurisko instructs.

Pottery – Introduction to Clay for Children
and Parents
Age:
6-12yrs. Projects include animal plates/bowls, candleholders, tiles or other
neat things! Each of you will have your own projects, but you can assist each
other as needed. You will construct with clay for two classes, then decorate
and glaze your pottery in the third class. Work will be left for firing and can
be picked up the following week. Registration is for each adult or child. You
may register more than one child as long as one adult is with the family. Course
fee is per person. Materials are included. Patty Merrell instructs.

Pottery – Wheel Throwing for Teens
Age:
12-16yrs. Teens learn the basics of throwing pots on the potter’s wheel. Class
time includes throwing demonstrations followed by practice time on the wheel.
Students work at their own level so all teens are welcome! Class ends with
glazing all pots for firing; they can be picked up by students after class has
ended. This class does not qualify participants for a studio card. Six
sessions. Joan Walsh instructs.

Jewelry – Bead Stringing with Gem Show Field
Trip
Age: 16yrs
and up. Create your own semi-precious jewelry masterpieces of your own design.
Class will include a trip to the jewelry and gem show at the State Fairgrounds
on Sunday, June 14, where students will purchase their material. First class is
mandatory. No prior experience is needed. Gem show details will be provided in
the first class. All students are responsible for their own transportation. Bring
a beading board and needle nose jewelry pliers. The rest of the materials will
be determined by student choice at the jewelry and gem show. Marla Ainspan

Mat Cutting – Mat Cutting Basics
Age: 15yrs
and up. Learn basic mat design and cutting and qualify to use our C&H
professional mat cutter. Also learn how to wire a frame for hanging and shrink
wrapping. You will design and cut a single mat and learn how to cut a double
mat. Bring a photo or artwork (up to 11”x14”) to mat. A $20 materials fee,
payable to the instructor, includes all items you need to mat and mount one or

Photography – Close Up and Macro Photography
Age: 15yrs
and up. Getting closer images reveals your subject’s detail, texture and
personality. In this workshop, we learn what is needed to get to that next
level of better close-up and macro imagery. Whether you are selling products
online or creating artwork to fill your home, this workshop navigates the
equipment, techniques and creative perspective needed to get the best close-up
and macro photography. Bring your digital camera equipment. Shaun King
instructs.

Jewelry – Workshop: Crocheting with Wire and
Beads
Age: 16yrs
and up. If you love to crochet with yarn and did not know that you could
crochet with wire and beads and are intrigued by this, or if you love to
crochet with yarn and love beads, then this workshop is for you! Once you learn
this technique, you will be able to crochet beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and
earrings that you design. You will only be limited by your own imagination. You
will leave this workshop with a beautiful wire crocheted bracelet that you
designed. Jewelry kits are available upon request. (Notify Sertoma of request
at least two weeks before start date of workshop). Kits vary in price and materials.

Fibers – Workshop: Fun Faces in Fabric
Age: 16yrs and up. Come express your whimsical, comical, colorful side in a
fabric portrait of yourself, a pet, your alter ego, or even your imaginary
friend. Basic design and art quilt techniques including fusible appliqué and
embellishments will be explored. Join us for fun and experimentation with color
and fabrics. $15 supply fee is due to instructor at first class meeting. Barb

Painting – Workshop: Color Mixing for
Acrylics and Oils
Age: 15yrs
and up. Understand the principles of color: hue, value and intensity. Learn how
to change the colors that come from the tube to suit your needs and how to
create hundreds of colors including black from three basic colors. These
principles apply to both oil and acrylic paints. There will be an hour break
