Brian Gonzales, Machine Dream

Everything is falling into place for our first exhibition of the 2015 series, State of the Print curated by Judy Jones. Ms. Jones has brought together North Carolina artists who continue to push the evolution of printmaking. Many of the works are based in traditional practices such as lithography, silk-screening, photogravure or monotypes, but are often heightened by layering, collage and digital technologies.

Opening Reception: Thursday, June 4 from 5-7pm
On view June 3 - July 24

BLOG EXCERPT
Pulp and Poetry
Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men? The Shadow knows.

Back in the 1930s and ’40s, an author named Walter Gibson, using the pen name Maxwell Grant, did the jaw-dropping feat of writing over 300 novel-length stories featuring a man named Lamont Cranston, AKA the Shadow. The Shadow starred in his own pulp magazine, and a fresh new adventure had to be printed every month. To keep up with the demand, Gibson could write 10,000 words a day. While I've managed to write 10,000 words a day a few times in my career, most of the time I struggle to get to 10,000 words in a week. I’m left in awe of pulp authors like Gibson, along with dozens of his lesser-known pulp brethren, who seemed to have conquered any specter of writer’s block, that great and sinister foe of all authors.
