As of Saturday, May 3, 2025 the Town of Oak Island has issued a temporary Burn Ban for all areas within the Town limits, effective immediately and until further notice. This action coincides with the Burn Ban issued by Brunswick County for all unincorporated areas which went into effect as of 5:00 PM on Saturday.
This ban is in response to current and future weather forecast models indicating conditions that are not favorable for open burning, as well as ongoing efforts by multiple agencies to combat a wildfire affecting the City of Boiling Spring Lakes and surrounding areas. The Town of Oak Island Burn Ban:
- PROHIBITS open flames from devices such as firepits or outdoor fireplaces, as well as sparklers and all handheld or ground-based fireworks. NOTE: NC General Statutes 14-410 & 414 already prohibit the use of "explosive or aerial fireworks."
- DOES NOT prohibit the use of grills and other enclosed cooking devices.
