New Hanover County Hires Environmental Management Director

New Hanover County) – New Hanover County announces the hiring of Joe Suleyman as Environmental Management Director, filling a key leadership role tasked with leading a professional team dedicated to providing world class environmental services to New Hanover County.

Joe Suleyman will join the County June 26, from Fort Wayne Indiana, where he has most recently served as operations manager for Republic Services, a national waste and recycling services provider and Fortune 500 company. Suleyman brings more than 10 years of solid waste and recycling collections operations experience focused on customer service, operational efficiency and profitability.

“We are very pleased the County was able to attract a dedicated industry professional with the experience and talent that Joe brings to the organization,” said incoming County Manager Chris Coudriet. “He will take over management of the County’s environmental management department, which is responsible for the integrated solid waste disposal through landfilling techniques, recycling and the contractual oversight of New Hanover County’s Sustainable Energy Facility.”

“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my career in New Hanover County and look forward to using my experience in solid waste and recycling management to benefit New Hanover County and its residents,” said Suleyman. Joe Suleyman and his wife, Christy, have a son; Noah, age 15 and daughter; Jenna, age 10.

Suleyman, who served as an Executive Officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and earned the rank of First Lieutenant, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
