Cumberland County Schools Announces Appointment to State Advisory Council on Indian Education
Fayetteville, NC — Cumberland County Schools (CCS) proudly announces that Candice Revels, coordinator for CCS' Indian Education, has been approved for membership on the State Advisory Council on Indian Education (SACIE). This honorable appointment, confirmed by the NC Commission of Indian Affairs Board and the NC State Board of Education, began on July 1, 2024, and will run through July 1, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term.

Revels' appointment to SACIE supports advocacy for American Indian communities, families and students. The SACIE, under the leadership of Chairwoman Dr. Tiffany Locklear, is dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences and cultural opportunities for American Indian students statewide. The Council’s mission is to create a system that engages state policy leaders, public school personnel, parents, tribal leaders and communities in providing educational experiences and cultural opportunities that promote high expectations and accountability for the academic achievement of American Indian students, thus preparing students for success in a globally competitive environment.
"I am both excited and honored to join the SACIE Board," said Revels. "It is a privilege to work alongside state policy leaders, public school personnel, parents and tribal leaders to enhance academic achievement and ensure student success for American Indian students in North Carolina."
