Cumberland County Schools Shines a Light on April's Extra Mile and Committed Community Support Award Winners
Fayetteville, N.C. – Cumberland County Schools (CCS) announces the April awardees of two highly desired awards! Olivia Culbreth, a fourth-grade teacher at Armstrong Elementary School, has been awarded the Extra Mile Award. The Samuel Council Chapter, 555th Parachute Infantry Association (PIA) was selected as the recipient of the Committed Community Support Award.
Extra Mile Award Recipient: Olivia Culbreth
The Extra Mile Award celebrates employees who consistently exhibit outstanding performance and inspire others to strive for excellence.
Olivia Culbreth, April's Award recipient, was selected because of her dedication, quick thinking and decisive actions to save a student from choking. In January, as students were enjoying their mid-day snacks, one of them began to choke on a piece of food. Without hesitation, Culbreth assessed the situation, remained calm and swiftly performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the obstructing object and preventing further harm.
Armstrong Elementary School Assistant Principal Angelena Owens expressed thoughts about Culbreth's actions. "Her commitment to the safety and well-being of the students reflects the exemplary qualities we hope to find in educators. It is clear that she not only fulfills her role as a teacher but also goes above and beyond to create a safe and nurturing environment for her students," said Owens.
