Cumberland County Schools Highlights March Extra Mile and Committed Community Support Award Recipients
Fayetteville, N.C. – Cumberland County Schools announces the March recipients of two much sought-after awards! Phillip Hart, Jr., a retired Driver's Education Instructor, has been awarded the Extra Mile Award. R.O.O.T.S Mentoring, a dedicated mentoring program, is recognized as the recipient of the Committed Community Support Award.

The Extra Mile Award celebrates employees who consistently exhibit outstanding performance and inspire others to strive for excellence.
Phillip Hart Jr., the Extra Mile Award recipient, was selected because of his willingness to serve during a student's time of need. While Hart was teaching a 'behind the wheel' lesson, he took quick action, ensuring the safety of a student driver while requesting medical assistance.
"Mr. Hart is very deserving of the Extra Mile award," said Morris Hargrove, the coordinator of CCS' Driver's Education program. Hart is being honored for his display of excellence.

Committed Community Support Award Recipient: R.O.O.T.S Mentoring
The Committed Community Support Award is presented to an individual or group for their selfless dedication to supporting the school system. R.O.O.T.S Mentoring, the awardee of the Committed Community Support Award, collectively works with many schools in Cumberland County.
The organization's acronym stands for "Regiment Of Overriding The Statistic." Rachael Robinson, principal at Walker-Spivey Elementary School, conveyed her admiration of the mentoring group's work., "R.O.O.T.S Mentoring program has been very consistent with working with the boys and girls of Walker-Spivey Elementary School since last school year," said Robinson. "R.O.O.T.S mentoring program collectively works with many schools in Cumberland County. Since working with Walker Spivey, both the male and women's division has been consistent with showing up for our students, and working to redefine the trajectory of the upcoming generations."

The Committed Community Support Award is for mentors, businesses, community partners, parents and volunteers who dedicate their time and resources to assist schools and help students succeed. Submit your nominations by the 10th of each month here.

A selection committee reviews nominations on a monthly basis and selects one winner for each award. Winners are recognized during the Cumberland County Board of Education’s regular monthly meetings from October through May.
