Local School District Asking Teens: "Want to be an ICON?"
Fayetteville, NC – With summer just around the corner, many area teens are looking for summer jobs. Cumberland County High School students who are at least 15 years old can look no further by applying for and interviewing to work in paid positions for six weeks this summer through the ICON (Innovative Career Opportunities Now) Summer Internship Program.
In its second year, the work-based learning program shares an educational approach utilizing the workplace to provide students with the competencies and skills that allow them to connect school experiences to real-life work activities through career exploration, exposure to the real workplace and achievement of work readiness skills. ICON also allows the students to make connections between schools, post-secondary opportunities and employers; improve their job prospects after graduation; and learn from skilled professionals.
ICON is requiring that applicants be current Cumberland County High School students who are at least 15 years old. Students who are hired will be required to pass a background check and drug screening and must be able to commit to working the entire six weeks.
Cumberland County Schools' students who are selected through a competitive interview process will work 32 hours per week for six weeks in positions at partner sites, earning $8.00 per hour.
ICON is accepting applications now until April 19, 2024. For additional information and to apply, visit CCS' Website.
